DIY pest control is it safe?

DIY pest control is it safe?

I know times are tough out there and that saving money is a must in today’s climate, but when it comes to DIY pest control ask yourselves the question ‘Do I really know what I am doing?’

We have had a spate of calls over the past 4 months where people have become a a Pest Controller or “DIY Expert “! On the face of it, buying a bunch of products off E-Bay or the local garden centre might seem a good idea.

But ask yourself this… would I strip down the clutch on the car and change this over? The reason I say this is because….in all probability you couldn’t, shouldn’t & wouldn’t as the lasting damage could be more expense and long lasting.

I have seen and heard of some really sad stories due to the general public getting hold of something they really don’t understand.

A reported recent DIY job – a  45 year old man bought some rat poison Bromadiolone he didn’t read the product label correctly and left the poison out, unfortunately, his small dog fed on it. You can imagine how upset he was at himself for not getting a Professional Pest Controller in to solve his problem, with specialist rat boxes etc.

Another customer called www.pest-control-essex.com in to resolve a bed bug problem after she didn’t read the insecticide label she bought off the Internet. She read the label in the wrong way & took it that she should put the whole bottle on her 3 year old daughter’s bed. She was taken to hospital with severe skin allergies after the bed had not dried properly and she lay on this product all night.

We were called to complete a pigeon proofing job after a younger man fell from a ladder and broke his back trying to complete a job that should have be done with a cherry picker, even with our vast experience we called in extra help to complete this job.

The stories go on and on…and it’s saddens us all to read them.

What you have to remember is that Pest Control Technicians do this day in day out and are used to dealing with pest problems. We are highly trained and take pride in the fact that we all work hard to be the best. It is not just about spraying or throwing chemicals about and hoping that it kills everything, we know how pests work and have a solution to each problem

So next time your thinking of a DIY pest control treatment….just stop…..think about what went wrong in the this blog with the 3 examples….they are all real and we at pest –control-essex.com have had to pick up the pieces after it went wrong.
